Nursery 1 Curriculum
Our Nursery 1 programme continues to reinforce the development of expressive language, communication and vocabulary skills. Gross and fine motor skills development are more actively promoted alongside personal, emotional and social development. Carefully structured experiences as well as emergent experiences occurring through daily interactions with people, manipulation of materials, play situations, routines and transitions continue to support children’s language, social-emotional and cognitive growth. Children in Nursery 1 begin to acquire increased awareness of numbers, engage in concepts and processes of math, explore sounds and letters of the alphabet and develop interest in books and reading. Their control and coordination of the fine motor skills increase their ability to manipulate materials and to engage in early pre-writing experiences.

The Nursery 1 curriculum emphasises children’s langauge and communication skills, cognitive skills, creative expression, sensory and motor skills, and personal and social development. Curriculum experiences promote learning of skills, concepts and content through emergent play situations where children make sense of things and people around them, investigate the world, form relationships and engage in active social interactions.
Nursery 1’s early experiences are facilitated through the following curriculum activities:
- Circle Time
- Project Work
- Little Chef
- Art Odyssey
- Music Odyssey
- OLE (Outdoor Learning Experiences)
- Chinese Language Immersion Programme
