04 Jun 2012 - MCYS Innovation Grant

At Odyssey, The Global Preschool, advocating innovative Early Childhood Education (ECE) practices is our mission. We continuously develop refreshing approaches to learning for our children. In addition to providing quality Early Childhood Education, the team at Odyssey pilots many new curriculum practices throughout the year with one common goal - to improve the overall quality and standard in the Early Childhood Care and Education sector in Singapore.

Our annual art exhibition, Colours of Odyssey, goes in line with Odyssey’s innovative approach to nurturing creativity in young children while promoting intercultural understanding. We are very proud to announce that the project titled “Dialogues with Symbols” for Kindy 2B facilitated by Miss Immae, Miss Hou Jing and Miss Loo Si Hui and mentored by Chitra Venkatesh from our Wilkinson campus recently received the in-principle approval for The MCYS Innovation Grant (IG) based on the following criteria.

• the innovative element in their proposal
• the project's ability to achieve the desired outcomes
• the increased quality of learning environment and/or services in the child care centre
• the replicability of the project in other child care centres

Well done to all who were involved, you have done yourselves and Odyssey proud!

24 Apr 2012 - Celebrating All Things Green - Earth Day 2012

Odyssey’s Green

                   Ambassadors

Did you know that Earth Day 2012 is on Sunday, 22 April?  Well, not only did the students of Odyssey, The Global Preschool, know about it they have also been hard at work preparing a day of celebrations for all things green on the 24 April 2012!

Since opening in 2008, Odyssey has taken a concerted approach to inculcating environmental responsibility in our students.  In addition to incorporating eco-friendly habits and messages into our curriculum such as recycling and planting our very own herb garden, the students also regularly take part in such activities and projects that help to bring the messages to life.  Global events such as Earth Day are an opportunity for our preschoolers to display their knowledge and passion for the planet.

Earth Day 2012 is a worldwide event that aims to collect A Billion Acts of Green® through the activities of individuals and groups.  For over 350 students at Odyssey, that means an opportunity to contribute through their own green acts, starting with designing their own Earth Day costumes!  Once the costumes are ready and donned, the children will head outdoors for a chance to exercise their green thumbs, where they will tend to their class’ herb garden followed by a joint effort to build a tree using twigs and leaves from around the campus.

The celebration will continue at the West Coast Park, where the students will participate in a short walk together with parents and the rest of the Odyssey community.  Here they will spread their green message to the public by carrying signs advocating green habits such as recycling and responsible energy use. Through their activities the children hope to raise awareness and inspire their families and community to join them in keeping their future bright and green.
