Art from the Heart

An Amalgamation of Creativity and Confidence

'Colours of Odyssey' is a culmination of the children's Art Odyssey Project. The three-week art project was planned to encourage children's self-expression, aesthetic enjoyment and active manipulation with colours, forms and exploration with the language of materials, tools and techniques. The educators in Odyssey believe that children's creative thinking can be nurtured through rich opportunities for individualised artistic experiences. The curiosity and sense of wonder with which the children approach art portray the true creative spirit that is required for the creation of innovative art. This art exhibition not only served as a platform for appreciating the efforts and creative potential of the children but also marked the Odyssey's first community advocacy project. The objective was to support community partnership by encouraging the spirit of giving in our children as they play a part in enriching the lives of the underprivileged children. The proceeds that were generated from the sale of the children's masterpieces were donated to the Singapore Children's Society.

'Colours of Odyssey, ART from the Heart' showcased the children's masterpieces at the Wilkinson and Alexandra campuses, and finally at The Arts House. The educators of Odyssey meticulously documented and presented the rich, revolutionary experiences of the Odyssey children. The curation and selection of children's exhibits showcased a clear shift from traditional work to the acceptance and exploration of new mediums such as installation and new media arts by the Great Masters and local artists. Clearly, all the children's exhibits gave one common message to all, and that was the distinct presentation of the image of the Odyssey child as creative, artistic and competent in using the language of media and materials in expressing their understanding of art.
